This message is to my peers.
I'm an 80's baby and child of the 90's. I lived through the age of the Super Model and the Real World on MTV.
In the 90's natural beauty reigned supreme and every woman wanted to look her best with no makeup. Then things changed.
Models were reprimanded for their unachievable beauty and the fashion industry was under fire. Rightfully so in many respects and change began.
Now the fitness industry is evolving along with the dawn of social media. Women who survived the 2000s with their self esteem are now bombarded by an new age of filters and photoshop. Our fitness heroes are no more real than a 3 dollar bill. Staging everything from workouts to meals. Setting an unreasonable expectations, with far more reach than the runways of the 90s.
Times have changed but the idea of beauty has not. We speak on body acceptance while being fraudulent in our actions. Filters are fun and as a professional model, I know my angels. But, as a mother, sister, and mentor I know the impact of what I do and say on girls and women around me.
When I tell a woman, she can turn her pain into passion, it isn't a catch phrase, it's because I've done it. When I speak to mothers about the importance of being examples of healthy lifestyle not just a dress size, it's because I live it.
When you see me, in the gym know that I had to purpose to be there, just like you. There are more women like you. Women grinding to be the best they can, with careers, families and responsibilities.
It's ok to be real, just be you.
